J-1 Summer Work Travel Program USA 2026: Experience American Culture While Earning Abroad

← Go Back

Full-time students from other countries have the chance to participate in the J-1 Summer Work Travel Program, unique to the U.S. Department of State. They are able to take up jobs and experience the United States during their school summer vacation. These participants find seasonal and temporary jobs in the hospitality, amusement park, tourism and retail industries. This allows them to connect with Americans, practice their English and be part of everyday life.

For the 2026 summer cycle, this program will launch applications in Fall 2025. Students from various parts of the world may enter the U.S. between May and June 2026 and can live here for up to 4 months, plus an optional 30-day period to travel after your stay. It’s a fun way to learn new things and meet people and you earn money at the same time.

Application Process:

All applicants must have an approved sponsor from the U.S. Department of State. Sponsors join students with companies and handle the steps involved in getting a working visa.

A lot of work in the region is related to hotels, theme parks and restaurants (as examples of the service industry). Either the sponsor helps them get placed or they find job themselves.

As soon as you have a job, your sponsor provides the form that is needed to complete your visa application.

Finish the DS-160 form, pay the SEVIS fee and choose a time for your interview at the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

Should your application be approved, you can travel to America and start employment with that company.
